Charmingly Sweet

Genre:

Romance, Contemporary Realistic Fiction

Summary:

This book was cute, light, and funny. The story introduces the reader to high schooler Lily while she is zoning out in chemistry class. While Lily does this she writes the lyrics to her favorite song on her desk. The next day Lily discovers that someone has written back to her. The small talk on the desk leads Lily to exchange letters that she and this mystery boy leave for each other under the desk. Lily soon discovers she is falling in love with her mysterious pen pal. This book not only focuses on Lily’s relationship with the mystery boy pen pal but also her relationship with her crazy family and her best friend. Through letters, Lily falls head over heels for the boy she doesn’t know, but will she be brave enough to reveal her identity. This charmingly sweet novel makes the reader see the romance blossom through Lily’s narrative.

Thoughts:

This book deals with discovering your first love while coping with the everyday struggles of school, family, and friends. This novel is a perfect match for a reluctant reader. It is a bit of a cliche story, but it is still a fun and quick read. The main character is very relatable for the reader to find a connection to Lily.
